Vibration welding is basically friction welding. The upper and lower halves of a part to be welded are placed in form-fitting fixtures mounted on platens of the welder. The upper half is then reciprocated at high speed and pressure against a stationary lower half.
Ultrasonic Plastic Welding (USW) is a welding technique that uses ultrasonic vibration of high frequency to weld the two pieces together. It is most commonly used to weld thermoplastic materials and dissimilar materials. A high frequency ultrasonic vibration generates heat energy at the interface of the two pieces and melts the material. The melted material fuses with each other to form a strong weld on cooling and solidification.
